Better Health Now. Today

Raul Dawson

When I started Better Health Now, Today in 2014, I envisioned it as a public journal. At first, I used this space to hold myself accountable, because maximizing physical and mental health can only come from the intentional daily effort. A Community Health Assessment, a/k/a Community Health Needs Assessment, consists of a multisector collaboration to find and fulfill state, community, and or territorial health assessments that supplies health needs and resources through systematic, comprehensive data collection, and analysis.

The philosophy of holistic nutrition is that one’s health is an expression of the complex interplay between the physical, chemical, mental and emotional, as well as spiritual and environmental aspects of one’s life and well-being. As such, professionals who are trained in the holistic nutritional approach to health and healing from a whole-person perspective. Using nutritional education as a primary tool, holistic nutritional professionals emphasize the building of health by approaching each person as a unique individual.

I am constantly overwhelmed by the encouragement and feedback I receive from readers. Guiding others along their wellness journey is my passion in life, so please don’t hesitate to let me know exactly what topics you would like to read about.

I want to share my “Rubicon” (my point of no return) about my lifestyle change with everyone, especially expecting mothers and couples looking to start a family. I want families to understand that it is possible to create a lifestyle that you love and to promote a healthy womb for your baby to thrive in and grow healthy. Understanding how nutrition and certain supplements can promote a healthy lifestyle and how certain behavior changes can promote a healthy baby omitting many infections and illnesses and also promote a mother lowering her risk of cancer. I meet with clients once per week for 45-60 min either in person or via Zoom Video Conferencing. We work together for a minimum of 6 weeks, but not usually more than 6 months, depending on the work we do. In rare instances, one-off sessions can be worked out.
Having participated in group coaching and one-on-one coaching, I believe one-on-one is the most effective way to enact change. There’s no way of lurking, hiding, getting lost in a group, and holding back. Each week we meet and form ways on reaching your goals. We will partner in implementing your plan of action and accountability on your part in reaching them. We will focus on many aspects of change, our primary and secondary foods, and the stressors that are important for change, this involves digestion, [not necessary digestion of food]. A wonderful and relatable quote by Hippocrates is, “It is more important to know what sort of a person a disease has than to know what sort of disease a person has”. Allopathic medicine has a one size fits all and approach ideology, in holistic health and healing we attend to the whole person and not part of a symptom, that is the whole point of Health Coaches.
